Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE)

Also called "early exit", TBE provides academic instruction in L1 while the student is learning L2. TBE usually
lasts 2-3 years and then L1 instruction is discontinued.

Developmental Bilingual Education (DBE)
|

Also called "late exit" or "enrichment", DBE provides long-term academic and language arts instruction
in L1 and L2 with the goal of bilingual proficiency.

Two-Way Immersion (TWI)
|
|
Language majority students and language minority students are taught both languages in the same class. The goal is not only
bilingual proficiency for all students but also cross-cultural understanding.
